CATANIA GATE - Porta Catania
C atania Gate, part of the city walls, enables the access to Corso Umberto from the south side. The date of its construction, 1440, is engraved in the niche placed on the arch, where the Aragonese coat of arms is depicted. It is also called the “Stroke Gate”, because in the next little square, in the Norman period, the public meetings took place, announced by the bells that were called “strokes”.
