the Palace Dukes of S. Stephen - Palazzo Duchi di Santo Stefano

The Palace Dukes of S.Stephen, built between 1300 and 1400 in Sicilian Gothic art, was part of the medieval wall. On the front there is a frieze forming a magnificent inlaid lace, thanks to the alternation of lava stone and white stone details. Around the Palace the garden extends, where the well for rainwater collection is still present. The original appearance of a fortified building was lightened when the families of the De Spauches, the Dukes of Santo Stefano di Brifa and the Princes of Galati resided there. Today the Palace hosts the Mazzullo Foundation and the several works and sculptures in lava stone by Giuseppe Mazzullo.
